Genre: Romance
Release Date: 16th April 2020
The Switch was definitley highly anticipated this year, following up from the sucess of her first book 'The Flat Share' which was a perfect example of what romantic comedy should be.
The Switch follows Eileen, who is very bored of being old and her granddaughter Leena, who is very bored of being young. These two women have nothing in common aside from how much they love each other ... on the surface anyway. Leena is forced to take a sabbatical from over-achieving and over-stressing at work and after a strange conversation, she switches her high-flying city life for the quiet yorkshire town life of Eileen. While Leena is trying to deal with her now long-distance boyfriend and trying keep up with her Grandmothers surprisingly hectic life, it seems Eileen is much cooler and younger than she remembered she was.
I fell in love with Leena and Eileen instantly. I was expected this to read just like every other life-swap concept but this blew all my doubts away within just a few pages. They were both so undeniably likable that I automatically was hooked into the details of their lives and rooting for them to come out on top!
This story had me in hysterics at some points, the juxtaposition of the main characters' new lives made such a vivid picture that I couldn't stop laughing at everything they got up to. But this was also a very cute read, with the kind of wholesome content that makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
The only part of this story that I saw coming was the story of Leena and her boyfriend, but this definitley didn't take centre stage and the true love story was between Grandmother and Granddaughter.
I read this entire book in a two-hour sitting and anybody looking for some lighthearted laughs, I'd definitley recommend picking up anything from Beth O'Leary.
The Switch has been nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards 2020 in the Romance Category - you can vote via Goodreads.com
