As a columnist specialising in swoon-worthy love stories, Laura knows a potential romance when she sees one. But sadly, she's had a serious lack of them in her own life.
When a work trip takes her back to the place her favourite love story began - her parents. Searching for inspiration for a one-of-a-kind story on the Isle of Jersey, she feels the romance in the air. So when she accidentally ends up with the wrong suitcase at the airport she can't help but wonder. This bag, with a battered copy of her favourite book, sheet music of her favourite artist, and thoughtful presents for the mystery owners mother seems like the beginning of her very own meet-cute.
Determined to find the owner, she enlists the help of a grumpy cab driver turned tour guide with a lovely beard and sets about the Island in search of a great story and true love -- but the course of true love never runs smooth, does it?
Just Haven't Met You Yet was the perfect meet-cute. It took everything you'd usually expect from a love story - a possible love triangle, the instant connections, the mishaps and misunderstandings and gave it such a loveably unique charm all of it's own. I guessed pretty early on where Laura might end her epic love story - and while some of it felt determined from the start, the journey there was absolutely wonderful.
Shamelessly, hopelessly romantic - this was a perfect blend of vibrant, feminist women and indulgent romance. Laura dreams of standing up against the patriarchy and standing up for her rights as a woman but dreams of love and romance - because nobody said a strong woman can't enjoy fairytales if that's what she wants.
Every character was built up so well I thought I could reach out and touch them, everyone fully formed and so easy to instantly connect with. They were flawed, stupid, naive and just plain annoying at times - but they were so real.
This was a beautiful story, and although I loved watching Laura embark on her Epic love story - this was a story about family, about history, about the different forms of love and all the things that come together to give us identity - Sophie Cousens has outdone herself with this one, I can't wait to see where she goes next.
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
