BOOK TOUR STOP x LOVEBOOKSTOURS - Jack in a Box by Angela C Nurse

When family is all you have, how far would you go to protect yours?

Rowans Uncle Jack has been her rock since she turned up on his doorstep as a pregnant teenager, he took her in when her own parents wouldn't. Since then, he's been the most important person in her life. He encouraged her to progress herself, helped her raise her daughter and even gave her a job helping out at his PI agency.

But she never could have known her first case would be Jacks murder. As amazing as Jack was, it's hard not to make enemies in his line of work, and Rowan starts to dig into his past to find out the what could have led him here ... but when you dig, you're going to bring up dirt.

"Three weeks ago I would've laughed if you told me Jacks life was at risk ... Now I'm standing in a windowless room alone, waiting to be shown a dead body. A body they say is Jacks."

The first in a new series, this has got all the makings of an epic detective mystery saga. Full of hidden secrets, hidden pasts and hidden bodies - Jack in a Box was thick with tension from the very first line.

Rowan was iconic - determined, fiercely loyal to her family and willing to do anything to protect them. I immediately felt a connection with her, and couldn't help but want her to stop doing things to put her in danger but also rooting for her victory at the same time. Her daughter, Alana, was whip-smart and witty - each character played their role perfectly. With a lot of familiar character styles that you've probably seen before but with a personal twist added to them.

Starting off slow, this book took a while to get to the action but once it did I was locked in - caught in a world of danger and secrets. I definitely guessed quite a bit of what was coming, but in a way it almost seems like the author intended us to figure out some of the big twists so she could knock us off our feet with the little twists that sneak up on us in the dark.

A gritty crime drama packed with intruige, suspense and a lot of love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I live in Fife, Scotland; home of one side of the beautiful Forth Rail Bridge, birthplace of Andrew Carnegie and a generally great place.
My imagination has always been my best friend. Being able to wrap my mind in the soft protection of stories has seen me through some of the most difficult and challenging times of my life.
I really enjoy the challenge of bringing my characters to life. It is with them that most of my ideas emerge.
I love crime novels and the breadth of crime as a genre. I enjoy following clues, looking out for little bits of seemingly unimportant information which, inevitably turn out to be the linchpin of the whole story. I have a notebook filled with thoughts and ideas, different ways to kill someone, where to hide a body, how much lye do you actually need to dissolve a cadaver, you get the idea. If you see me looking dreamily into the distance my thoughts are likely more sinister than sweet.

Thank you to Angela C Nurse and @LoveBooksTours for inviting me to take part in this tour. I was gifted this title in return for an honest review.

REVIEW: Live, Laugh, Lesbian by Helen Scott

Genre: Non-Fiction | Memoir | LGTBQ+  Release Date: 19th October 2023 Publisher: Jessica Kingsley Part memoir, part guide, part conversation and all queer joy — Live, Laugh, Lesbian is a brilliantly warm and friendly journey into the queer experience, not only from the author but from plenty of other lesbian, queer, bisexual and pansexual contributors who bring a unique viewpoint and voice and also show a beautiful diverse, intersectional scope of the queer spectrum and welcomes in queer people and allies of any kind to come feel the love. The book is very conversational, talking to the reader in a fun, friendly way — at times I rolled my eyes as the use of “famalam” but as a previous patron of Colours and Chicagos I’m not in a position to judge the Essex-isms. It’s full of anecdotes and observations that were witty and relatable as well as talking is through the more difficult side of queerness like dealing with workplace discrimination, religious trauma and coming out to family...

BOOK TOUR STOP x RANDOM THINGS TOURS: Thirty Days of Darkness by Jenny Lund Madsen

" This town has secrets that are best left alone." Author Hannah is a success, on paper at least. She's receiving critical acclaim and praise worldwide and her work is regarded as some of the best. She writes literature, not just books. But the reality is, outside of the literary circles nobody actually reads her work. But when she finally snaps at a book event and publicly criticises the genre fiction books that outsell hers, claiming they're easy and mindless she's challenged to write her own crime fiction novel in just thirty days by an author she loathes. Desperate not to lose to him, her editor arranges for her to spend a month in a quiet, cold village in Iceland hoping that the solitude will spark inspiration.  But instead of writing a murder story - she's in one . Just before she arrives, the body of a young man is pulled from the icy waters and her search for ideas soon becomes a search for a killer. And if she's not careful, she might end up the...
