"Wingmen are the team of supporters that each of us curate. They're the cheerleaders that egg on a person to reach their potential. They're the friends that can be called day or night, when a shoulder to cry on is essential. They're the people to phone when one is rushed to hospital and needs a toothbrush and a change of underwear."
If you were to describe Tilda in one word, it'd be safe. She's never taken risks, or been spontaneous, and it's worked so far for her. She's always had a plan. But now she's trying to jump start her life after her plans fell apart and searching for the courage to take a leap.
Bea is falling in love. Or at least, she thinks she is anyway. But she isn't sure if she wants him or just wants someone.
And ever since Stewart lost his estranged Father, he's given up. Given up on himself, on his work, on most things actually. He says losing his Dad is the reason behind it all - is it, or is it just an excuse to avoid facing his real problems?
With everything going on in their lives, these three have almost lost sight of who they are - but when they get together for a big reunion weekend, it's time to try and reconnect with friends and maybe even themselves.
Witty and dryly funny, this hilariously relatable story is all about growing up and getting old. Packed full of astute observations about how grown up it feels when you start getting excited about your kitchen, to how potent and deadly hangovers become with age, Nicky Bond will call you out and feel absolutely no shame about it. This story answers the question, 'Does anyone really ever feel like a grown-up?' with a resounding hell no.
A follow-up to Bonds 2017 book 'Carry The Beautiful', this story can definitely hold up as a stand-alone novel but you should definitely check it out anyway!
Although a little slowly paced at times, I found myself curious about our three friends and their circles, and watched them change and develop from people with the one defining characteristic we are introduced to into fully rounded, very real people who grow and learn. All of them were frustrating, annoying at times, and I'm pretty sure I'd be friends with them anyway.
Three People. Three works in progress.
