BOOK TOUR STOP x LOVE BOOKS TOURS - Vacant by S Graham

"I used to search for that haunted house every October until that haunted house became my own."

Becca has a beautiful life. She's been married to Mitch for 21years, they have two wonderful sons and they're just about to move into a new city again. So when they find a beautiful, newly restored home that's sat vacant for over a year they can't believe their luck - but soon Becca starts to wonder if the house was ever really empty at all.

It starts off with a feeling, an inkling that someone is watching her, then a strange vibe from otherwise lovely neighbours. But then the strange, the unusual, and the terrifying start to happen and she realises they're not alone at all - and they're all in danger.

"Some don't even make it through the haunted houses; the terror seems too real to them."

Chilling right from the first few lines, Vacant has a sense of dread that seeps through every single page and chills down to the bones. Full of brilliant little references like a floating red balloon, this horror will sink it's claws in and not let go until it's done with you.

Perfectly juxtaposed against a blissful suburban backdrop, this feels like a familiar tale about haunted houses but with something else lurking in the background. The characters were an intriguing mix - Mitch is a skeptic, but Becca's visiting mother is definitely a believer and her son thinks the house is full of zombies. Becca was brilliant - although she definitely felt like the final girl in a horror movie, I found myself screaming 'get out of the house!" at her and had that sinking feeling when someone runs into the basement in a serial killer movie - but you couldn't help but root for her and her beautiful family.

There was a strange passing of time in this novel, it felt like they'd been in the house a matter of weeks but it had been months - but the months blurred into each other - almost like you'd been living in a haunted house and hadn't slept in months.

Inspired by a true story - it's down to you, reader, to decide just how real this horrifying tale could be but whether you believe it or not you'll definitely find this a gripping read ... as long as you leave the lights on.

REVIEW: Live, Laugh, Lesbian by Helen Scott

Genre: Non-Fiction | Memoir | LGTBQ+  Release Date: 19th October 2023 Publisher: Jessica Kingsley Part memoir, part guide, part conversation and all queer joy — Live, Laugh, Lesbian is a brilliantly warm and friendly journey into the queer experience, not only from the author but from plenty of other lesbian, queer, bisexual and pansexual contributors who bring a unique viewpoint and voice and also show a beautiful diverse, intersectional scope of the queer spectrum and welcomes in queer people and allies of any kind to come feel the love. The book is very conversational, talking to the reader in a fun, friendly way — at times I rolled my eyes as the use of “famalam” but as a previous patron of Colours and Chicagos I’m not in a position to judge the Essex-isms. It’s full of anecdotes and observations that were witty and relatable as well as talking is through the more difficult side of queerness like dealing with workplace discrimination, religious trauma and coming out to family...

BOOK TOUR STOP x RANDOM THINGS TOURS: Thirty Days of Darkness by Jenny Lund Madsen

" This town has secrets that are best left alone." Author Hannah is a success, on paper at least. She's receiving critical acclaim and praise worldwide and her work is regarded as some of the best. She writes literature, not just books. But the reality is, outside of the literary circles nobody actually reads her work. But when she finally snaps at a book event and publicly criticises the genre fiction books that outsell hers, claiming they're easy and mindless she's challenged to write her own crime fiction novel in just thirty days by an author she loathes. Desperate not to lose to him, her editor arranges for her to spend a month in a quiet, cold village in Iceland hoping that the solitude will spark inspiration.  But instead of writing a murder story - she's in one . Just before she arrives, the body of a young man is pulled from the icy waters and her search for ideas soon becomes a search for a killer. And if she's not careful, she might end up the...
