"Lachlan Carter gate-crashed his wife's funeral despite his father-in-law banning him from attending."
Today, Detective Sergeant Leccy Carter buried his wife after she died giving birth to their beautiful son. Their marriage, that started on a passionate and impulsive night in Vegas last year, had ended too soon and the future they'd dreamed about was over before it really started.
But it isn't over, not really.
Leccy never really knew that much about Kelsa's past, about the skeletons that might in her closet, so when a stalker starts to torment and torture him he realises he could be back with his beautiful wife sooner than he thought if he doesn't figure out the mystery that is his late wife.
His love for Kelsa is about to be put the ultimate test ... and it will take him to hell and back.
"Kelsa was baffling even when she was alive, but in death, she was enigmatic. For every 'why' answered, more questions popped up. Led by Butler-Once-Moore, his wife was orchestrating her moves from beyond the grave."
A Wife Worth Dying For is one of the stories that leaps into action instantly, the mystery and suspense growing from the first chapter and never stopping.
With short, easy to read chapters, it was so simple to fly through the pages - keeping everything straightforward and to the point but somehow still brimming with emotion. Leccy was an intriguing character to follow - I couldn't fully connect with him, feeling like he was holding the reader at arms length, not letting them get close enough, but still he made me feel every punch he was dealt and want him to be okay. He was real, heavily flawed, but trying his best and that I could definitely get behind.
Now, this book deals with some heavy topics - including murder, rape, assault and death. And at times it felt like there were just too many details - focusing on the underwear of victims and similar - but there was also a very real sense that there was accuracy in the way the criminal investigations were done.
