BOOK TOUR STOP x Random Things Tours - Psychopaths Anonymous by Will Carver

Maeve has everything. A high-powered job, a beautiful home, a string of uncomplicated one-night encounters. She’s also an addict: a functioning alcoholic with a dependence on sex and an insatiable appetite for killing men.

When she can’t find a support group to share her obsession, she creates her own. And Psychopaths Anonymous is born. Friends of Maeve. Now in a serious relationship, Maeve wants to keep the group a secret. But not everyone in the group adheres to the rules, and
when a reckless member raises suspicions with the police, Maeve’s drinking spirals out of control. She needs to stop killing. She needs to close the group.

But Maeve can’t seem to quit the things that are bad for her, including her new man...

"God, grant me the lack of empathy to kill the ones I cannot stand, apathy for the ones I can tolerate and detachment to know the difference. Thy kill, not mine, will be fun."

Let's just start by saying - if you're not ready for bloody graphic violence, sex and swearing, don't even both reading past the first line and put this book in the freezer where you can't see it. This is the type of book you'd assume has a cult following somewhere on the internet - this electrifying crime thriller is brutal, bloody and reaches into the darkest, most depraved parts of human nature.

Even if you're not an alcoholic sex addict with psychopathic murderous tendencies, it's terrifyingly easy to relate to Maeve, to feel some morbid curiosity and connection to her character. Even in her twisted, cynical voice she sometimes voices unkind and uncomfortable truths - like the fact sex workers and homeless people are often swept over in the media if they are victims of murder or any crime, that everyone will blame their choices and not the actual murderers themselves.

There is a lot of repeated themes - using the idea of the twelve steps programme and reliance on God to solve the problems of humanity - and while it took a while for this book to take off, when it did it was a total, chaotic bloodbath that stopped for no man.

The entire concept is something totally unique and had me looking at everyone suspiciously. I will definitely be eyeing up every bulletin board I see to make sure the Friends Of Maeve aren't too close by... Horrifically entertaining and engrossing, this book is the very definition of marmite fiction.

REVIEW: Live, Laugh, Lesbian by Helen Scott

Genre: Non-Fiction | Memoir | LGTBQ+  Release Date: 19th October 2023 Publisher: Jessica Kingsley Part memoir, part guide, part conversation and all queer joy — Live, Laugh, Lesbian is a brilliantly warm and friendly journey into the queer experience, not only from the author but from plenty of other lesbian, queer, bisexual and pansexual contributors who bring a unique viewpoint and voice and also show a beautiful diverse, intersectional scope of the queer spectrum and welcomes in queer people and allies of any kind to come feel the love. The book is very conversational, talking to the reader in a fun, friendly way — at times I rolled my eyes as the use of “famalam” but as a previous patron of Colours and Chicagos I’m not in a position to judge the Essex-isms. It’s full of anecdotes and observations that were witty and relatable as well as talking is through the more difficult side of queerness like dealing with workplace discrimination, religious trauma and coming out to family...

BOOK TOUR STOP x RANDOM THINGS TOURS: Thirty Days of Darkness by Jenny Lund Madsen

" This town has secrets that are best left alone." Author Hannah is a success, on paper at least. She's receiving critical acclaim and praise worldwide and her work is regarded as some of the best. She writes literature, not just books. But the reality is, outside of the literary circles nobody actually reads her work. But when she finally snaps at a book event and publicly criticises the genre fiction books that outsell hers, claiming they're easy and mindless she's challenged to write her own crime fiction novel in just thirty days by an author she loathes. Desperate not to lose to him, her editor arranges for her to spend a month in a quiet, cold village in Iceland hoping that the solitude will spark inspiration.  But instead of writing a murder story - she's in one . Just before she arrives, the body of a young man is pulled from the icy waters and her search for ideas soon becomes a search for a killer. And if she's not careful, she might end up the...
