BOOK TOUR STOP x Random Things Tours - Love The Way They Lie by Linda Smolkin

In a matter of minutes, a speeding ticket turns her life upside down.

Nobody likes the DMV. Maggie especially, now that her most recent trip to the most boring place on earth revealed a lie that would destroy everything - a photograph from a speeding ticket, with her husband and another woman.

And even after betraying her trust and their marriage, he doesn’t even have the decency to let her move on without him, he’s always somewhere in her peripheral dragging her back and she tries to move forward. But she finds, despite her inner voice telling her if she was prettier or blonder she might be more loveable, that she’s a catch - and people want her. But with everything that happens, she can’t help but think everyone is lying to her and using her; so maybe it’s time to finally time to use their own weapons against them and try to fight back with lies of her own.

"I'm falling apart not only because I trusted him and loved him but I'm letting my mind play tricks on me. I'm doing all the "what-ifs" to see how one of them could have kept Nate from reaching out to this other woman in the first place."

As I've said many times before, I usually hate the word 'rollercoaster' when it comes to describing books, but I really can't think of a better word to describe Love The Way They Lie. This is one of those stories that will show you a characters lowest point and darkest insecurities and then dazzle you with hope and happiness before the tears have dried.

This was a very quick read, and despite being about some tough subjects was so easy to get engrossed in and follow along - this was all about the characters and their inner thoughts. Maggie was an amazingly written character - she wasn't exactly likeable, but it made her so much more interesting. She captured the insecurity and trust issues that plague so many, constantly blaming herself for everything that went wrong with her life.

But she made bad choices, she was petty and childish sometimes, she did stupid things, and eventually, she started to lie - but as we see her journey we understand just how she began to do these things and we even start to agree. This story will make you question honesty, and if or when it's really okay to lie.

This is a love story, just not one of the usual ones. It's about the love between friends and family, about the painful side of love, the love for ourselves, and (most importantly, of course) the love for adorable little dogs named Chili.

REVIEW: Live, Laugh, Lesbian by Helen Scott

Genre: Non-Fiction | Memoir | LGTBQ+  Release Date: 19th October 2023 Publisher: Jessica Kingsley Part memoir, part guide, part conversation and all queer joy — Live, Laugh, Lesbian is a brilliantly warm and friendly journey into the queer experience, not only from the author but from plenty of other lesbian, queer, bisexual and pansexual contributors who bring a unique viewpoint and voice and also show a beautiful diverse, intersectional scope of the queer spectrum and welcomes in queer people and allies of any kind to come feel the love. The book is very conversational, talking to the reader in a fun, friendly way — at times I rolled my eyes as the use of “famalam” but as a previous patron of Colours and Chicagos I’m not in a position to judge the Essex-isms. It’s full of anecdotes and observations that were witty and relatable as well as talking is through the more difficult side of queerness like dealing with workplace discrimination, religious trauma and coming out to family...

BOOK TOUR STOP x RANDOM THINGS TOURS: Thirty Days of Darkness by Jenny Lund Madsen

" This town has secrets that are best left alone." Author Hannah is a success, on paper at least. She's receiving critical acclaim and praise worldwide and her work is regarded as some of the best. She writes literature, not just books. But the reality is, outside of the literary circles nobody actually reads her work. Desperate not to lose to him, her editor arranges for her to spend a month in a quiet, cold village in Iceland hoping that the solitude will spark inspiration.  But instead of writing a murder story - she's in one . Just before she arrives, the body of a young man is pulled from the icy waters and her search for ideas soon becomes a search for a killer. And if she's not careful, she might end up the...
