Nora and Charlie aren't the heroes of any stories - but they have one thing in common and that's their love of books. Nora is a literary agent known as 'The Shark', Charlie is an editor that terrifies everyone, a superpower for best-sellers and Nora's least favourite person in the world.
So Nora is very happy to get away from him and spend the month in Sunshine Falls with her very pregnant sister. The entire is something from the pages of a romance novel (quite literally, actually) - so the sisters know how this goes, they've read enough of them. Maybe she'll meet a cute local boy, who will see past her hard exterior and finally be the one to get the Happy Ever After. But instead, Charlie turns up, clouding up her sunshine.
He wasn't meant to be part of this story, so she'll have to take a page out of another book to get through this.
"When books are your life - or in my case, your job - you get pretty good at guessing where a story is going."
Emily Henrys' writing feels exactly like a warm hug or a really good cup of tea.
She has a way of taking every trope we know and love and use them to create something exciting but beautifully familiar - a real book lover writing books for other book lovers. Complete with witty observations about writing and literature from the first idea to the finished products, she has nailed the art of books about books.
Nora and Charlie were wonderful to meet - we could see beneath their cold, professional outlooks and life and slowly got to know them as we see what's underneath and see an authentic, naturally growing relationship potentially form - we know exactly where this story is going, but the journey there is the real star of the show. Nora and her sister, Libby, were beautiful - a stunning portrayal of a chosen family, a real relationship with ups and downs and lots of love.
Through every chapter, the story flowed naturally like pleasant conversation without any dead space or filler - and it was all too easy to read this in one cosy sitting.
Henry brought in some honest and relatable heartbreak, plenty of self-discovery, and most importantly - plenty of sweet, steamy romance. Once again, Emily Henry has created the perfect beach read (pun intended!)
