Join me as we take a look through the bookshelves of our favourite writers, readers and book lovers - today we're talking all things books with Daisy Hollands. Daisy is a book lover, reviewer and tour host with my fabulous partners, Love Books Tours.
Meet Daisy … "I’m 57 and I live in Shropshire with two of my three children and a beautiful but greedy Labrador. I am an avid reader and have been since I was three years old. I have recently started my own business as a freelance editor/proof-reader and author coach. I also host writing workshops and dabble in copywriting myself."
What are you reading now?
I’ve just started Love Deleted by Paul Indigo and I have high hopes for it.
Next up is The Couple on Holiday by Mikayla Davids. Really looking forward to it.
What’s the first book you remember reading?
It would have been something by Enid Blyton. I wouldn’t be able to tell you specifically, but I read all her books so it would have been one of those.
What book made you love reading?
Again, I can’t say with any certainty but it would probably have been one of the Malory Towers series or one of the Twins at St Clares books. I did not have a happy childhood, books were my solace and my saviour and books about boarding school seemed like a dream come true to me.
What book can you always re-read?
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. My childhood favourite that has always stayed with me. It has everything and again, pure escapism for little Daisy.
What book do you think is under-rated?
Sanctuary by Eliza Hope-Brown. It was released early this year and as it’s a debut novel, not many people know about it yet, but those that have read it absolutely love it. There’s going to be a tour (with Love Books Tours of course!) next month and I can’t wait. It will be so cool to see this beautiful story getting the attention it deserves.
What book makes you cry?
This is a sneaky one because it’s one I am editing and it hasn’t been published yet. It’s called Muse and it’s the third book by Eliza Hope-Brown. It’s still not finished but there are so many lines that just make me sob. I am super excited for it to be released.
What book makes you laugh?
Anything by Marian Keyes. Her books are always full of wit and humour. She is the queen of sharp dialogue and dialect and manages to lighten some really intense subjects via the medium of humour.
What book do you think everybody should read?
This is a no-brainer for me. Colours by Eliza Hope-Brown. (Do you sense a theme here?) Easily my favourite author and this book is absolutely brilliant. For me, it has everything and I know I will read it many, many times over.
What got you into book blogging?
It was pure chance. Somehow I found Love Books Tours in my Instagram feed, thought it looked intriguing and here we are almost three years on and the rest (271 reviews, 47 cover reveals, 76 publication day blitzes and 10 spotlights) is history. I have been stretched and challenged by reviewing books that I maybe wouldn’t have either seen or picked up in a regular bookshop and I love that. My reading tastes have changed considerably too. I am big into psychological thrillers now and that’s all down to being given the opportunity to read those kinds of books by Love Books Tour. I am forever grateful for Kelly and all her hard work and the community of Love Books Tours, there has been such a positive impact on my life.
