BOOK TOUR STOP x INSTABOOKTOURS: Her No.1 Fan by Abby Davies

Rachel Brown plays Doctor Elouise Sparks in the popular TV series 'Emergency'. Though successful in her career, Rachel has just learned that her chance of conception is small, and she is devastated by the information.

That’s when Mikey Bell takes Rachel from her home to a remote mountain cottage. But Mikey’s motive isn’t ‘normal’. He has a strange request. The good news is that if Rachel can deliver by Christmas Day, he’ll let her go.

But someone else in the cottage is not on the same page as Mikey. This person has different designs for Rachel, and the bad news is that this No.1 Fan has no intention of ever letting her leave.

"I couldn't help but wonder if I was being punished. I probably couldn't have children and now I was being held prisoner by a psychopath. Was my Dad right; was I selfish and spoiled - rotten to my core? Did I deserve these terrible turns of fate?"

Abby is the undisputed Queen of thrillers with feelings for a reason - and this is just more proof of her title. She creates something chilling, unsettling and thrilling but always one that is full of deep emotions and lasting feelings that make everything so much more intense.

If you’re a fan of thrillers, you’ve probably read Misery which heavily inspired this work; and I love how Abby has taken an idea and made it her own - there’s definitely something familiar about the story but every little twist and turn is something new and you are still left on the edge of your seat.

Her No. 1 fan is a horror that grows over time, starting with an already terrifying premise and building up the pressure and suspense until it’s palpable in a feverish, desperate way that is utterly gripping, blending the cinematic intensity of a thriller with the dark, visceral imagery of a horror to create a truly uncomfortable but unforgettable read. Every location, every character, every small detail is masterfully crafted to disturb and delight.

It delves into the dangers of obsession and desire with a narrative style that hooks you in and keeps you guessing, with all the details making everything feel suspicious and sinister and every twist getting darker. As we hear directly from Rachel as she moves through the most horrific chapters of her life, she shows is her fears, her despairs in such a descriptive way you can feel every little thing along with her.

Another five star read from the Queen!

REVIEW: Live, Laugh, Lesbian by Helen Scott

Genre: Non-Fiction | Memoir | LGTBQ+  Release Date: 19th October 2023 Publisher: Jessica Kingsley Part memoir, part guide, part conversation and all queer joy — Live, Laugh, Lesbian is a brilliantly warm and friendly journey into the queer experience, not only from the author but from plenty of other lesbian, queer, bisexual and pansexual contributors who bring a unique viewpoint and voice and also show a beautiful diverse, intersectional scope of the queer spectrum and welcomes in queer people and allies of any kind to come feel the love. The book is very conversational, talking to the reader in a fun, friendly way — at times I rolled my eyes as the use of “famalam” but as a previous patron of Colours and Chicagos I’m not in a position to judge the Essex-isms. It’s full of anecdotes and observations that were witty and relatable as well as talking is through the more difficult side of queerness like dealing with workplace discrimination, religious trauma and coming out to family...

BOOK TOUR STOP x RANDOM THINGS TOURS: Thirty Days of Darkness by Jenny Lund Madsen

" This town has secrets that are best left alone." Author Hannah is a success, on paper at least. She's receiving critical acclaim and praise worldwide and her work is regarded as some of the best. She writes literature, not just books. But the reality is, outside of the literary circles nobody actually reads her work. But when she finally snaps at a book event and publicly criticises the genre fiction books that outsell hers, claiming they're easy and mindless she's challenged to write her own crime fiction novel in just thirty days by an author she loathes. Desperate not to lose to him, her editor arranges for her to spend a month in a quiet, cold village in Iceland hoping that the solitude will spark inspiration.  But instead of writing a murder story - she's in one . Just before she arrives, the body of a young man is pulled from the icy waters and her search for ideas soon becomes a search for a killer. And if she's not careful, she might end up the...
