Goodbye 2024, Hello 2025! Despite my health kind of kicking my butt this year and making it a little tough to hit my (admittedly self-imposed) reading targets, I still discovered some absolutely amazing stories that stayed with me throughout the year. And I'm so excited to see some familiar faces on the list again. If you missed some of these stunning 2024 releases, definitely check them out! - Bee x
I love Emily Austin so much. An amazingly anxious novel about Enid, a young woman trying to navigate her complicated life and working through a lifetime of trauma - with brilliantly peculiar storytelling, brilliantly realistic characters and so much heart that you can't help but fall in love with every line.
Listen for the Lie - Amy Tintera (February 2024)
Five years ago, Lucy's best friend was murdered. She doesn't remember it, but everyone still thinks she did it. And now Podcaster Ben is dragging it all up again - but this might be her chance to find out if she really did it. Dark, delirious and thrilling with sharp commentary on female friendship and love.
Medea - Rosie Hewlett (March 2024)
A beautiful retelling of my favourite greek myth, the origin story of the woman scorned, raising the voice of a woman pushed to breaking point. It was amazingly descriptive, with amazingly modern storytelling while keeping the mystique and wonder of the original ancient stories.
It Lasts Forever and then it's Over - Anne De Marcken (March 2024)
Imagine a classic story about the undead, and then make it lyrical, beautiful and poetic with a dash of existential crisis. This is what you get. A simply stunning short story about life after death that takes the most horrific sights and fills in with the most ethereal, eerie joy.
The Best Way to Bury Your Husband - Alexia Casale (March 2024)
When Sally kills her abusive husband during lockdown, she doesn't expect to end up with a haphazard group of women all with bodies to bury and the strangest friends she's ever had. A stunning statement on domestic abuse, mixed with a dark ensemble comedy and absolutely amazing characters who you couldn't help but fall in love with and root for.
The Husbands - Holly Gramazio (April 2024)
Lauren was single when she went to bed but now she has a whole life with a husband - and an attic that seemingly keeps making more whenever she wants. But can she find what she wants when she never knows if the next could be better? This was one of the funniest books I've ever read but so full of love.
I Hope This Finds You Well - Natalie Sue (May 2024)
Jolene is having a bad day; but then suddenly she gets access to everyones emails and she can do everything - get ahead, find out what people are saying about her and maybe even save herself from looming layoffs. A chaotic but painfully relatable portrait of modern corporate culture full of humour and heart.
The Family Experiment - John Marrs (May 2024)
In the world introduced during The One and The Marriage Act, meet the people entering a new virtual reality contest with the grand prize of finally having the chance to have their own child. An astoundingly dark thriller set in a twisted imagining of todays society that just had to be read in one sitting.
Date with Destiny - Lucy Vine (May 2024)
Ginny had a physic reading ten years ago and it's followed her since. 3 bad things, 3 good - but now the bad things have happened, could the good ones be true too? A riotously funny and relatable story about a woman lost in her life with sweet romance and a lot of self-discovery.
The Big Day - Aliyah Ali-Afzal (June 2024)
Noor didn't want to get married until she met Dan - but now between both their families, their big day is being taken from them and turned into a nightmare. This novel was a beautiful story about expectations, family and identity with an amazingly relatable and witty narrator - I absolutely loved every moment.
Experienced - Kate Young (June 2024)
Bette and Mei are on a break so Bette can experience dating before they settle down. But as she's trying to learn about life and love as a newly out lesbian, what will she find? This was amazing - full of queer joy, discovery, friendship and so much.
Making It - Laura Kay (July 2024)
Issy is taking a chance - moving to a new city to finally get a break in the art world. But her first time in the city after life in a small time is so much more than she ever expected. A warm, beautiful queer story about friendship, love and taking risks. I will read anything Laura Kay writes.
Textbook Romance - Kristen Bailey (July 2024)
When Jack and Zoe meet at a wedding, sparks fly. But they shouldn't. So when they bump into each other again at work after a divorce and a lot of chaos, it's just a matter of time before the sparks start again. A joyous, hilarious romcom full of silliness, sass and a little steaminess.
Missing White Woman - Kellye Garret (August 2024)
Bree was looking forward to a relaxing break with her boyfriend - but then Janelle goes missing and so does her boyfriend. She knows they're innocent, but now she needs to prove it. A stunning, harrowingly intense thriller that explores the Missing White Women phenomenon with finesse and flair.
Her Daughters Lies - Mikayla Davids (August 2024)
The final instalment in the Bailey family series; a mysterious surprise party and a lot of secrets are going to be the final test for Nadia and the bailey women. A dark, exciting popcorn thriller with endless twists, turns and wickedly dark revelations.
We'll Prescribe You a Cat - Syou Ishida (September 2024)
In a small clinic in downtown Kyoto, a strange Doctor offers their lost and stressed clients a cat to help with their problems in ways they'd never expected. Five strangers have their life changed by the beautiful, healing relationships between people and their feline friends. Absolutely stunning.
